Caring Beyond Self, in Action

What a Difference Core Values Make

Listed among our core values is the simple dictum to “care beyond self.” More than a sentiment, this is an active concept at Kingswood Oxford, one we cultivate and practice as we continually look beyond our circumstances to help others, especially in our local community.

Service learning takes many forms at KO and can be completed through clubs, travel, and other co-curricular activities. Every student must complete community service hours to receive a Kingswood Oxford diploma. Our service learning requirements upon graduation are 60 hours.

Many far exceed the 60-hour requirement and graduate with 100 hours or more, making them eligible for the Kingswood Oxford Community Service Hall of Fame.

Service Leadership Day

Service Learning Travel Opportunity - Team Tobati

Established by Upper School Spanish teacher Ron Garcia in 1988, Team Tobati is a service learning travel opportunity to Tobati, Paraguay during the March break. KO students visit the Tobati community, repair roads, paint schools, work in the fields, and partner with the local students. Every year, approximately 100 Upper School students travel to Tobati. Since 1988, thousands of Wyverns have enjoyed this transformative two-week experience.

Other Travel Opportunities

International Model U.N.

In addition to attending local Model U.S. conferences, KO students can attend these conferences in a foreign country with school staff members. A few years ago, students traveled to Russia to attend the St. Petersburg International Model U.S., a three-day-long simulation where students problem-solved vexing international issues. Before and after the conferences, students tour the local area. Our Wyverns have attended conferences in Madrid, Budapest, and Prague, combined with a week of traveling with local private guides.
